Izklāstīsim mūsu viedokli šajos nestabīlos laikos, kad Amerikas Savienotās Valstis draudzējas ar Putinu, bet nežēlīgi šantažē Ukrainas valsti, kas jau trīs gadus drosmīgi cīnās aizsargāt savu zemi pret iebrucēju krieviju.

Izteiksim atzinību mūsu mītņu zemei Kanādai par stingro morālo stāju un līdzšinējo atbalstu Ukrainai un Latvijai. Tomēr šī ir arī reize pieprasīt, lai Kanāda pilda savu solījumu NATO izdot vismaz 2% par aizsardzību. Ir reize pieprasīt skaļi sludināt patiesību. Ir reize iesaldētos krievijas aktīvus izmantot Ukrainas aizsardzībai.
Ņemot vērā, ka agrāk vai vēlāk Kanādā šogad notiks vēlēšanas, ir svarīgi, ka mēs paceļam šos jautājumus jau tagad, lai kandidāti zina, ka šie jautājumi mūs dziļi aizkar. Ceram iespaidot kandidātu politiku, nostājas un prioritātes.

Following are two sample letters. Please review and edit as necessary (eg. in one it refers to being born and raised in Canada, but perhaps you are not).
Besides sending a letter to your local MP, we encourage you to write to party leaders, ministers such as Defence Minister Bill Blair, to the four Liberal leadership candidates, and to whomever might be a candidate in your riding if you know who that might be.
For MP’s, you can find their email addresses at http://www.ourcommons.ca. They have a common format: chrystia.freeland@parl.gov.ca, karina.gould@parl.gov.ca, pierre.poilievre@parl.gov.ca, etc.

Sample Letter 1 (addresses just Ukraine):
Email header: Regarding Russia’s War on Ukraine
As a Canadian I am deeply concerned about the recent actions and behaviours of the United States of America under President Trump, and their negative impact on Canada and the rules-based international order.
The Trump administration’s alignment with Russia, as evidenced by the USA’s refusal to vote in favour of the February 24 United Nations resolution to condemn Moscow’s aggression in Ukraine, the disrespectful and bullying behaviour towards President Zelensky on February 28, and the USA’s suspension of military aid to Ukraine, is deeply disturbing. It is crucial that Canada continue to work with our NATO and European allies to stand up for what is right.
I call upon you to :
- reiterate that Putin started the war on Ukraine, not the other way around
- recognize the great sacrifices that the Ukrainian people have made to defend their sovereignty
- remind Canadians, and demand that Russia and the USA uphold the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, signed by Ukraine, Russia, the USA and the United Kingdom, whereby Ukraine agreed to give up its nuclear weapons in return for guarantees that it would not be subject to military force or economic coercion by Russia, the USA or the United Kingdom
- insist that Ukraine be party to any negotiations to end the war on Ukraine
- demand that kidnapped Ukrainian children be returned to their families
- insist on durable security guarantees for Ukraine
- not recognize the annexation of Russian occupied lands in Ukraine
- support Ukraine’s admission to NATO
- free up the over $140 million in frozen Russian assets in Canada to help fund Ukraine’s defence
- step up Canada’s defence, and meet Canada’s commitment to NATO to spend at least 2% of our GDP on defence immediately, with a plan to get to 3% in the near future
- continue to deploy and invest in the Canadian-led brigade in Latvia as part of Operation Reassurance, strengthening NATO’s collective defense in Central and Eastern Europe
- support Canada’s participation in a “coalition of the willing” peacekeeping force should there be a ceasefire in Ukraine
Canada has always stood up for what is right. I look to all of our political parties to take a positive, mutually respectful and collaborative approach in working together in the service of all Canadians, and in defence of democracy around the world.

As a Canadian, I am deeply concerned about the recent actions and behaviours of the USA leadership and their negative impact on Canada and the world. Most concerning to me as a Canadian are:
- the unwarranted USA trade war and attack on Canada’s sovereignty
- the USA’s shameful abandonment of Ukraine
The USA is in effect destabilizing the world.
Re the attack on Canada:
The March 4 address by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit all the right notes. I trust our governments, both federally and provincially, to take the appropriate actions to protect Canada’s economy and sovereignty.
Re Ukraine:
