Jānis and Aina Vītols Scholarship Recipients in 2023

Emīls Matīss, currently a PhD student, specializes in the study of cortical models within the field of computational neuroscience. In the past, he has served as a teacher at the Toronto Latvian School TLBSS, danced with Toronto Daugaviņa, and held positions as both treasurer and president of LNJAK. Presently, he holds the role of treasurer at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre.

Evan Thomas is a third year student studying Business Administration at the University of Guelph Humber in Toronto, Ontario. He specializes in small business management, with hopes of one day owning his own business.
Sarma Mārtinsone is a third year student at Western University, London, Ontario, where she is studying for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Simona Gaide is a first year student at Brock University in St. Catharines, studying for a bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications.

Toms Maksiņš is a third year student at Carleton University in Ottawa. He is studying Communications and Media Studies.

Elizabete Eglīte is 19 years old. She is a first year student at Brock University in St. Catharines, in the faculty of Child and Youth Studies/Concurrent Education. It is a six year program with a focus on child development, meant for future teachers. At the end of the program, Elizabete will have earned two degrees.
