Celebrations of the 106th anniversary of the proclamation of Latvia’s independence are an opportunity to feel connected to our country and people, and to celebrate with others who share our values.
The organizing committee invites compatriots and guests to a three-day celebration of the republic of Latvia at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto (4 Credit Union Drive, North York)
Saturday, November 16 10:00 a.m. The Toronto Latvian Saturday School celebrate the National Day by gathering families and guests for a festive ceremony.
12:30 p.m. The Latvian Artisans Association of Canada invites you to the opening of their exhibition.
The artists’ organization “Latvis” are putting on an art show in the Galerija Hall.
1 p.m. Feative Lunch in the Rīga Hall
2 p.m. The community celebration, “The Long Road…..Home”, featuring the Toronto Choir and the dance groups “Daugaviņa” and “Daugaviņas meistari”, will delight the audience with a beautiful and varied concert of song and dance.
The programme will be hosted by LNAK, with the participation of the Ambassador of Latvia to Canada, Kaspars Ozoliņš.
Dr.Rev. Fritz Traugott Kristberg will present certificates of appreciation and awards to winners in various fields.
4 p.m. Cocktail Reception
Sunday, 17. 11 a.m. Sunday Service at St. John’s Church. 200 Balmoral Ave., Toronto.
After the service: the film “Answer for Anne”. The 1949 film reflects on the issue of displaced persons in the USA, and the experience of Latvian refugees in the “Valka” camp in Germany.
Monday, November 18 at 10:30 a.m. Join City Councillors and members of the community for a flag raising at City Hall
11:30 a.m. Raising of the flags at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre, 4 Credit Union Drive, North York.
12 p.m. Lunch at the Latvian Centre with musical accompaniment by pianist Pēteris Zariņš.
1 p.m. Presidential Address by the President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs.
