Diaspora, political participation, survey
Members of the Latvian diaspora are invited to complete a survey by November 10
The Centre for Diaspora and Migration Studies at the University of Latvia launches the third large-scale Latvian Diaspora Survey!
On 15 October, after a five-year break, the Migration Research Group at the University of Latvia is launching its third large-scale survey of the Latvian diaspora. This year the survey focuses on the political engagement of the diaspora and their social and economic ties with Latvia. The survey seeks to find out why Latvians living abroad vote or don’t vote in elections, what other activities they engage in to influence processes in Latvia, and what they would like to see political parties offer. The study will also reveal the reasons why people are emigrating from Latvia, how this has changed over time, and what prevents them from returning to Latvia. The study also touches on economic ties with Latvia and the willingness of the diaspora to invest in Latvian companies. The survey is open to Latvian nationals or those born in Latvia who currently live outside Latvia. The responses to the survey are completely confidential and will only be used in a comprehensive manner. The survey is open until 10 November via the link to the study: https://aptauja.migracija.lv/index.php?r=diaspora2024
