{"id":6209,"date":"2024-05-03T00:33:44","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T04:33:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lnak.net\/organizaciju-zina\/lets-vote-in-the-european-parliament-elections\/"},"modified":"2024-07-05T11:02:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-05T15:02:18","slug":"lets-vote-in-the-european-parliament-elections","status":"publish","type":"organizaciju-zina","link":"https:\/\/lnak.net\/en\/organizaciju-zina\/lets-vote-in-the-european-parliament-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s vote in the European Parliament elections!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Why:<br\/><\/strong>&#8211; to elect the best candidates to represent Latvia in the European Parliament<br\/>&#8211; because our votes have power<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Voting in person:<br\/><\/strong>&#8211; Saturday, June 8 in Toronto (Toronto Latvian Centre) and in Ottawa <br\/>&#8211; bring your valid passport or eID card<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Voting by mail:<br\/><\/strong>&#8211; register online between May 4 and May 31  <br\/>&#8211; to apply to vote by mail, you need:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&#8211; a valid eID card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; eID card certificates (passwords, i.e. PUKs and PINs that came with your eID card)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; a <em>Smart<\/em> card reader<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&#8211; a <em><em>printer <\/em><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>&#8211; you will need to print out the voting materials and send your vote by MAIL to arrive in Riga by June 8 <\/p>\n\n<p>Please do not wait until the last minute to vote by mail.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you will not be able to vote in person and would like help with the process of applying to vote by mail, please email admin@lnak.org. We will be happy to help.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>How to decide which party and candidates to vote for:<br\/><\/strong>&#8211; here is the <a href=\"https:\/\/epv2024.cvk.lv\/kandidatu-saraksti\">list of candidates<\/a><br\/>&#8211; there were 8 Latvian MEPs in the current European Parliament &#8211; Andris Ameriks, Ivars Ijabs, Sandra Kalniete, Dace Melb\u0101rde, Nils U\u0161akovs, Inese Vaidere, Roberts Z\u012ble and Tatjana \u017ddanoka<br\/>&#8211; (Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity) was elected, but Inese Vaidere took his place when he became Vice-President of the European Commission)<br\/>&#8211; assess the performance and achievements of these Members<br\/>&#8211; Latvia will be able to send 9 MEPs to the European Parliament this time<br\/>&#8211; All but Andris Ameriks and Tatjana \u017ddanoka will stand for re-election<br\/>&#8211; Tatjanai \u017ddanoka has been banned from running as a candidate due to her participation in the Communist party after January 13, 1991  <br\/>&#8211; it is important to realise that by not voting, we can help elect a pro-Russian candidate<br\/>&#8211; as in the parliamentary elections, one list (party) must be selected for which to vote; a plus or minus sign will be allowed next to the candidates&#8217; names<br\/>&#8211; watch Andris Gobi\u0146\u0161&#8217;s seminars if you were\/are not able to listen to them live (they will be available on the LNAK website www.lnak.org)<br\/>&#8211; follow the Latvian press;
