The Foundation&#8217;s resources come mainly from <strong>donations <\/strong>and <strong>bequests<\/strong>. Continuing the tradition of the Friendly Invitation (&#8220;Draudz\u012bgais aicin\u0101jums&#8221;), the Foundation conducts an annual fundraising campaign and sends out letters to the public asking them to donate to the work of the Foundation. Donations are used to support Latvian education, cultural events and the work of LNAK. Without the support of the Latvian community, IKF could not continue to support Latvian schools, schoolchildren, university students and important cultural events.<\/p>\n<p>Board members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Chairperson Elizabete (Elita) P\u0113tersone<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Chair Emerita Inta Purva<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Vice-Chairman Arturs Jansons<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Secretary\/Treasurer Vilis Mikla\u0161\u0113vics<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">Members Iveta Bertovska, Anete Ivsi\u0146a, Karina Mieri\u0146a, Kaspars Reinis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As in previous years, in 2023, IKF supported Canadian Latvian schools (five elementary schools and one highschool) with $25.00 per pupil, as well as forwarding Friendly Appeal donations. <\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, 2023 is the last year we will be able to give<strong>J\u0101nis and Aina V\u012btols memorial scholarships<\/strong> to university students, as the funds from their bequest have run out. Hopefully, we will be able to access some of the Livia Jansons and Leonard Skreitulis scholarship fund, which is managed by LNAK.<\/p>\n<p>Students who received the J. and A. Vitols Scholarships in 2023 were:<\/p>\n<p>Em\u012bls Belogl\u0101zovs<br \/>\nElizabete Egl\u012bte<br \/>\nAmanda Gaide<br \/>\nSimona Gaide<br \/>\nTyler Lakats<br \/>\nToms Maksi\u0146\u0161<br \/>\nSarma Martinsone<br \/>\nEm\u012bls Mat\u012bss<br \/>\nAlexandra Thomas<br \/>\nEvans Thomas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer scholarships:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2&#215;2 camp in Latvia &#8211; Em\u012bls Mat\u012bss and Pauls Skuja.<br \/>\nLaura Legzdi\u0146a for a summer internship at the Latvian Fund for Nature.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In the cultural field, the IKF provided grants to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the Toronto choir<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;Daugavi\u0146as&#8221; documentary film<\/li>\n<li>the screening of &#8220;Soviet Milk&#8221; at the European Union Film Festival in Toronto<\/li>\n<li>the 2&#215;2 camp &#8220;Kodols&#8221; in Saulaine<\/li>\n<li>LATCAN&#8217;s third book on Latvian organizations, sports and professionals<\/li>\n<li>the establishment of the Latvian Heritage Trail in Manitoba<\/li>\n<li><em>Latvija Amerik\u0101 newspaper<\/em>with ads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em> <\/em>We know that many people support activities in Latvia, but <strong>we must not forget our own needs here in Canada<\/strong>.
