On Saturday, May 23 , students gathered for the last day of Latvian language courses for adults in Toronto. Sincere thanks to instructor Andai Libere and her assistants Aija Mazs\u012ble and Dacei Veinbergs. Thank you Lean Houston, St. Andrews congregation, and to all who helped with technical needs. Thank you to the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto for their generous support in providing the facilities.<\/div>\n

Eleven students were enrolled in the courses this semester. The courses were held on Saturdays from 9:00 to 13:00, which was convenient for parents taking their children to the Latvian Saturday School. Among the students were non-Latvians married to Latvians, Latvians with one Latvian parent or grandparent, and Latvians who had little Latvian schooling or whose Latvian language had become “rusty” over the years. Having students at different levels is a challenge, but everyone is welcome! The class was divided into groups according to their levels. A portion of the time was spent directly on language or grammar lessons. Time was also devoted to reading and practising conversational language.<\/div>\n
