The American press have in recent days published what is rumoured to be US President Trump\u2019s \u201cpeace\u201d proposal for ending Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Trump Administration officials stated that should the two sides reject the US proposal, the US is ready to \u201cwalk away\u201d from the \u201cpeace process.\u201d (The peace process being non-existent in any event).<\/p>\n

The outline of the Trump \u201cproposal\u201d<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0rewards Russia\u2019s genocidal aggression and punishes Ukrainian resistance by demanding that Ukraine accept Russian control over occupied Crimea and parts of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts. Trump\u2019s proposal is not one of peace \u2013 it is a proposal for occupation, penury, death and continued Russian aggression.<\/p>\n

Ukraine\u2019s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rightly stated that<\/a>, \u201cThis violates our Constitution. This is our territory, the territory of the people of Ukraine.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kaja Kallas, the European Union\u2019s High Representative for Foreign Affairs,\u00a0affirmed that the EU will never recognize Crimea as Russian<\/a>. \u201cCrimea is Ukraine,\u201d Kallas stated.<\/p>\n

Obviously, Ukraine cannot and will not abandon millions of its citizens to the cruelty and subjugation of Russian occupation. Nor can or will Ukraine abandon the rightful and just claim of the Indigenous Crimean Tatar People to their homeland.<\/p>\n

Just as obviously, the Trump administration is preparing to blame Ukraine for the failure of its \u201cpeace process,\u201d even though it is Russia that invaded Ukraine, it is Russia that is murdering Ukrainian citizens, it is Russia that is abducting Ukrainian children and it is Russia who could end the war today.<\/p>\n

Despite the fact that Ukraine has agreed to an unconditional ceasefire,<\/a>\u00a0which Russia rejects, the Trump administration has, in its three months in office, pursued only one policy consistently \u2013rewarding and appeasing Russia, and punishing and pressuring Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Therefore:<\/p>\n

  1. Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union must prepare for the end of US military assistance to Ukraine and the possible end of US intelligence sharing.<\/li>\n
  2. Canada, the UK and the EU can and must replace the military aid the US provides Ukraine. The EU\u2019s GDP is $20 trillion; the UK\u2019s is $3.3 trillion; Canada\u2019s is $2 trillion. Together, that is $25 trillion. Russia\u2019s GDP is $2 trillion.<\/li>\n
  3. The Russian military is not invincible and can be defeated.\u00a0 What is needed is the political will to do so.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
